Temple of Solomon is a mosque built by Prophet Suleiman PBUH and it is called ‘beit al-Maqdis’ or ‘Masjid al-Aqsa’ by Muslims. The Jews call it ‘Beit HaMikdash’ means “the Sanctified House” and the western people call it ‘temple or shrine’. In Jewish scriptures, it is written that once Prophet Suleiman PBUH (Solomon) built ‘beit Yahweh’ (the God of the Jews) ‘which came to be called the ‘beit al-Maqdis’ the Sanctified House’ and translated into Latin is ‘house of worship / temple’. Then from there finally embed the name of Masjid Al-Aqsa as haikal / temple according to Jewish beliefs as we often hear today.
In short, the intrinsic name for the building that built by Prophet Suleiman PBUH is ‘beit al-Maqdis’ as the last prophet Muhammad PBUH, or it may be called ‘Masjid al-Aqsa’ as implied by Al-Quran al-Karim. But the original description of the mosque is only in the old Torah which today has largely changed its content. [E.H]
