NEW YORK, (PIC)– The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) welcomed in a press release Monday a donation of US$ 1 million from the government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for the agency.
The contribution will support emergency needs in Gaza, including reconstruction, the statement underlined.
The Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the United Nations, Ambassador Masood Khan, presented the donation to the Director of the UNRWA Representative Office in New York, Richard Wright.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl thanked the government of Pakistan for this generous contribution: “UNRWA is extremely grateful to the Government and people of Pakistan for this exceptional gesture, which will help alleviate the suffering of Palestine refugees in Gaza, in particular those living under extreme hardship following the summer’s hostilities and large-scale destruction.”
Israel’s summer offensive on Gaza had caused a large devastation in the Strip, killing more than 2100 people mostly children, and leaving tens of thousands homeless. (palinfo)
