On Friday morning, (7/13), three Palestinian youths and two Israeli police officers were killed in an armed clash in the Al-Aqsa Compound, precisely near Bab al-Asbat Gate (The Gate of the Tribes), in occupied East Jerusalem. The clashes began when the three young men opened fire on Israeli officers near the Tribes Gate, and fled towards the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque, where they exchanged fire with soldiers. Following the fatal incidents, the soldiers completely sealed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and canceled Friday prayers, before preventing all Muslim worshipers from entering or leaving the mosque courtyards.
The operation carried by the three young men made Israel increased their escalation against Al-Aqsa. Israel took advantage with this incident, meanwhile Arab and Islamic countries are too busy with their internal crisis, not to mention the political constellation of Qatar as a major State to support Palestine in last time had a shake because of the embargo of some Gulf States and Egypt.
Israel’s threat and blasphemy against Al-Aqsa Mosque has been run since June 6, 1967, just a day after Israeli occupation took over East al-Quds. Blasphemy in various forms still continues until today, both targeting the physical buildings of the mosque and the worshippers who prosper the mosque.
Lasting for 50 years, Israel raided Al-Aqsa Mosque, conducting tunnel excavations under and around the mosque, partial burning of mosques, project-division authorities over mosques (in terms of time and territory), persecution of Muslim worshippers, and various other forms of desecration.
Historical backgrounds related to Al-Aqsa and Palestine could form a basic perception in viewing the actions carried by the three Palestinian youths above, as a form of natural reaction to the accumulation of various forms of occupation and humiliation by Israel. In the midst of the powerlessness of the most people of the world to quell the occupation, the Palestinians undertook various heroic acts to gain the independence of their homeland.
Understanding the historical background and issues in Palestine is essential things to establishing framing and perceptions of the problems and dynamics of subsequent conflicts. Without those foundation, someone can easily be affected by certain framing of the insights and information presented by some media, including in viewing of the various actions carried by the Palestinian resistance against Israel.
Then, related to the heroic operation on Friday morning, (7/15), if viewed from the side of its influence, then the action is more deserve called as heroic action. Ilyas Karim, Al-Jazeera’s correspondent in Al-Quds conveyed, for Israel, the attack carried by the three young Palestinian men was more dangerous than any other method that has been carried out. This resistance method was using gun, in contrast to previous actions using simpler methods and tools, such as stabbing and more.
At least there are some findings that could be revealed as the influence of the heroic action, including: first, with the action, could be measured the quality of defense and security of Israel in Al-Aqsa Mosque. Simultaneously hinted at the innovation of methods and ways of the Palestinian youth in carrying out their heroic actions. Amid the tight security of Israeli soldiers and police, the three young men able to ‘escape’ and managed to do the action. Secondly, the action became a frightening threat to the Israeli citizens, not to mention the figures and officials who in fact visited or stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The threat could be a scourge for Jews and Israelis, and further minimize blasphemy against Al-Aqsa. Third, it brings inspiration and a spirit of struggle for other Palestinian youth.
