Foreign Minister: Indonesia will Always Remember Palestine, Indonesia is a Close Friend of Palestine

ASPAC for Palestine – Thursday, November 30, 2017. The Jakarta’s sky is overcast. Soft drizzle fell like a cotton swab. The air along in Gen. Sudirman road was not much different from the temperature in Sasono Mulyo Ballroom – Le Meridien Hotel, which the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People was held by the Department of Public Information – United Nations. The event took place in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Palestinian Embassy in Jakarta. ASPAC for Palestine became one of the organizations invited to this event.

Exactly at 10:20 pm the event started. The event continued with the first speech by Ms. Eshila Maravanyika of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), who read the message from the UN Secretary General. As the theme is, “The Palestinian People: Everlasting Roots, Infinite Horizons”, the United Nations urged to end illegal occupation as a final issue for the road toward Palestinian independence.

The second speech was delivered by H.E. Dr. Zuhair Al Shun as the Palestinian Ambassador in Jakarta. “Thank you for your support for the Palestinian people,” he concluded after reminding the audience about Al-Aqsa Mosque in Palestine as the first Qibla of Muslims and the second mosque built on earth, as well as the third holy mosque recommended to visit.

H.E. Mr. Mourad Belhassen, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia in Jakarta, reminded on his speech that all humanitarian organizations should never forget the rights of defence for the Palestinian people. The same thing was emphasized by the Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Ms. Retno L. P. Marsudi in closing remarks.

There are at least five things that were delivered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. First, reminding that Israel has colonized Palestine for 50 years. Second, there is no other step to end the occupation except with Independence, Justice and Peace. Third, independence could be the establishment of two-state that make Jerusalem a capital city for Palestine. Fourth, Indonesia congratulates about the reconciliation of Hamas and Fatah held in Egypt, in fact it is a positive achievement, because reconciliation is the key to gain the independence. Fifth, Indonesia will continue the programs for Palestine, the challenge is to safeguard the Palestinian issue internationally, and Palestine Solidarity Day is the moment.
