Maymunah Bint Sa’d (ra) relates that she asked the Prophet (saw), “O Messenger of Allah, inform us about Bayt Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem)”. He said, “It is the land where they will be raised (Al-Hashr) and gathered (Al-Mahshar). Visit it and prayed there, aprayed in there is worth 1,000 times more reward than anywhere else”. She further asked, “If one of us cannot visit it, what should we do”? He said, “If you cannot go for prayer then send some oil to be used for its lamps, will be as if he has prayed in it”. (Ahmad, Ibn Majah, Abu Dawud, Tabarani)
Maymunah’s persistence is appealing to contemplate and exemplified. After Rasulullah PBUH explained the virtue of Bayt Al-Maqdis, Maymunah sought out other options to achieve it, when she was caught in limitations. And he gave another solution to achieve the virtue. After that, it did not explain what Maymunah did. Intelligent people can read the rest of the story above. Question from a weak slave who answered with great wisdom.
Similarly, when Rasulullah PBUH taught Islam to Shuhaib ar-Rumiy, Bilal bin Rabah and some slaves, came the magnates and the nobility of Quraysh to him. With a glowing face he greeted all the guests, without distinguishing it. Practicing the sunnah, dignifying and honoring guests. However, when the nobles refused to sit with the slaves, they felt more glorious than the slaves, then they asked that the slaves be sent home. Rasulullah PBUH was became awkward and changed his face expression. It was Allah who then answers it aloud, “And do not send away those who call upon their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His countenance. Not upon you is anything of their account and not upon them is anything of your account. So were you to send them away, you would [then] be of the wrongdoers. ” (Surah al-An’am : 52)
What caused the nobles to feel better than Bilal and Shuhaib? Or even a slave girl like Maymunah? They should be ashamed, so do we. Because they have a strong determination to gain glory, even if it just lights the lamp in Bayt al-Maqdis. The limitations of Maymunah’s condition did not make her surrender to the glory of Bayt al-Maqdis. Similarly with Shuhaib and Bilal, achieved an important position on the side of Rasulullah PBUH. Even Bilal, the muezzin of Messenger of Allah PBUH said that he heard Bilal’s horns in heaven.
The modern life and the metropolitan atmosphere of the big cities, as well as the loss of spiritual appeal form the human character of being greedy and viewing others with material sizes. Their glory is standardized from a materialistic perspective. Yet wealth is the great test of Allah for mankind, “… Is not Allah most knowing of those who are grateful?” (Surah al-An’am: 53)
It is time for each of us to think of achieving glory with a plan adjusted to the conditions of each. In fact, even if there is a measure of matter then the material is merely a symbol of glory. Let’s we contemplate Allah’s message in the next verse, ” And when those come to you who believe in Our verses, say, “Peace be upon you (Salâmun ‘alaikum). Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy…” (Surah al-An ‘âm: 54)
When we are in the community of believers, the measure of his kindness is the first to pray and recite the greetings, salâmun alaikum! This indicates that the race of goodness is happening anywhere and anytime with different sizes. Learn from Abu Baker (read: Exert Everything) who always wants to give the best.
Shuhaib, Bilal and Maymunah have had their plan of achieving glory with their conditions. What is our planning? Still complaining about the limitedness? WalLâhu al-Musta’ân.
