Sabra and Shatila massacre

The Sabra and Shatila massacre was massacres or the killing of between 762 and 3,500 civilians committed in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps on September 16, 1982 by Israeli occupation forces and their allies in Lebanon under the command of Ariel Sharon and Rafael Eitan. The massacre was one among many double standard evidences applied by the major powers. Under the protection of unequal judiciary, Israeli military aggression has survived with many cases of Israeli racist practices against the Palestinian people. The number of people killed in the massacre was 3,000 to 3,500. Men, women, and children were killed in less than 48 hours on 16th, 17th and 18th September 1982, but there were differences opinion about exactly the number of casualties due to the fact that most of corpses buried in mass to be difficult to count for sure, many of the residents of Sabra and Shatila were missing.

The ultimate goal of the Sabra and Shatila massacre was to spread fear in the hearts of the Palestinian people so that they would migrate and leave the country. Sabra and Shatila massacre was not the first massacre committed by the Zionist occupiers, because they had been preceded by the massacre of Qibya, Deir Yassin and Tantura, not also the last since there was a massacre at Jenin and Gaza. The massacre was conducted under the pretext of avenging the assassination of Lebanese battalion leader Bachir Gemayel, but it was certainly done in retaliation for what had been done against Palestinians who had faced colonialism and blockade. Until now, the perpetrators of massacre have not designated as suspect of war crimes by the international world even the suffering of occupation in Palestine has not been over. [EH]
